Two incidents in three weeks on the same stretch of road. That is the uncomfortable backdrop for Hull City after midfielder Lucas Gourna-Douath, 24, was involved in a car crash near the club's training ground on Thursday morning.

A black Mercedes understood to belong to Gourna-Douath was found on its side on Millhouse Woods Lane in Cottingham, East Yorkshire. Humberside Police confirmed emergency services were called at 08:30. One witness told the BBC the vehicle had also struck and damaged a car belonging to a local resident.

Hull City moved quickly to address the incident publicly. The club confirmed it was "aware of images circulating on social media following a road traffic accident near the training ground" and stated that no one was harmed. Beyond that, the club offered no further comment.

The Second Incident on the Same Road

What makes this story harder to ignore is the pattern. In September, Gourna-Douath's Hull team-mate Sorba Thomas was involved in a separate crash on the very same road — meaning two Premier League players have come off Millhouse Woods Lane within a matter of weeks.

Local residents are understandably rattled. Paul Nickerson, who lives nearby, arrived at the scene shortly after the car turned over having heard the impact. He told the BBC: "If it had happened a minute before, my wife was walking down the road with our kids taking them to school. So, it's really worrying."

Tracey Evans, who has lived on the road for 19 years, said she has been pushing for a reduced speed limit for roughly a decade. The two crashes in quick succession have sharpened those calls. "Measures need to be put in place to avoid something happening in the future," she said, noting that the road is busy with families and schoolchildren at that time of the morning.

What Happens Next

From a footballing standpoint, Hull will be relieved that Gourna-Douath escaped without injury — the France youth international is an important figure in their Premier League engine room. Whether either crash leads to any formal police action has not been confirmed at the time of writing.

The broader question, raised by residents and likely now by local authorities, is whether road safety measures on Millhouse Woods Lane need to be revisited. Two serious incidents involving vehicles linked to players at the same club, on the same street, in the same month, makes that conversation difficult to put off any further.

Humberside Police have not yet provided any update on the status of their investigation into Thursday's collision.
