Data sources
Historical match results and bookmaker odds — Football-Data.co.uk (1993/94 onwards). Live fixtures, results and standings — the Football-Data.org API. EPL player and FPL data — Fantasy Premier League's public API. Open event data — StatsBomb open data and openfootball/football.json. Reference biographies, founding years, stadium info — Wikipedia and Wikidata. Advanced stats (xG, possession, shots) — FBref / Understat where available.
Sync schedule
All external data is synced to our own database via background jobs. No live API calls happen during a normal user request. RSS feeds: every 15 minutes. Live fixtures and standings: hourly, gated to active match windows on match days. FPL: every 30 minutes in-season. Historical bootstrap: refreshed at season end. Health checks for each sync job run every 15 minutes.
Head-to-head policy
A team-vs-team page is rendered as indexable when at least three competitive meetings exist in our archive, the pair is in the same league for the current season, or the pair is on our notable-rivalry allowlist. Pairings without enough meetings are intentionally excluded from the sitemap and taggednoindex, follow to avoid thin-content indexing.
Editorial standards
Articles are written by one of our five named editors. Where AI is used to draft, an editor always reviews and signs off before publish. Sources are checked, never copied at sentence level, and quotes are verified to a primary source. Corrections happen quickly and openly.
